How Old is
Your Oil Tank?
It is important to know how old your heating oil tank is when you purchase a home. The average home heating oil tank should last anywhere from 15 to 30 years. It can be a large, unexpected expense when you find out you moved into a home with a 35-year-old oil tank that needs replacing right away.
Al Terry Plumbing & Heating can come and inspect your tank and let you know what condition your oil tank is in. Please keep in mind it does pay to err on the side of precaution, because a leaking oil tank can quickly become a serious problem.
There are a few signs homeowners can look for that can help determine the status of their oil tank. If you see any signs of rust or excessive dents on the surface of the oil tank you need to call an expert sooner than later. If there are any signs of wetness on the surface of the tank or underneath the tank you should report this to an expert as well.
Checking the fuel gauge and making sure it is not stuck, frozen, or cracked is an important to do a couple times every winter. Making sure the whistle is not silent during an oil delivery is also another way to check your heating equipment. All oil lines, under concrete or above ground, should be encased in a protective tubing. If you notice you are using more oil than usual you will want to call us 603.485.4205. Inefficiency is often a sign that you need to replace your heating oil tank. Please click here to schedule an appointment if you see any of these signs or equipment issues. We will advise repairs, upgrades, or an oil tank replacement to keep you safe and your heating equipment running efficiently.
